How does JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC Work?

Young, healthy-looking skin contains an abundance of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid. But as you age, sunlight and other factors can reduce the amount of hyaluronic acid in your skin. The lack of hyaluronic acid causes your skin to lose structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds - like those parentheses lines around your nose and mouth.

Using a dermal filler like JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC is a safe and effective way to replace the hyaluronic acid your skin has lost, bringing back its volume and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds.

What Are the Results of JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and How Long Do They Last?

JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC's results usually appear natural, and are seen immediately . However, the body absorbs the JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC (aka hyaluronic acid) over time, so the injections must be repeated periodically to maintain the refreshed look. JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC are said to last about a year.

What is the difference between JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC?

JUVÉDERM® and JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC are hyaluronic acid products that are crosslinked to provide stability and viscosity. JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC is less crosslinked and is primarily used to fill more superficial lines and areas of slight volume loss. Ultra XC is injected into the higher parts of the dermis allowing for more visible correction of slighter and more subtle lines. JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is more crosslinked with a higher viscosity, stability, and filling ability; and is used to fill deeper lines and areas of greater volume loss. Ultra Plus XC is injected into the mid and deep dermis allowing for greater volume deposition over a greater area.
