Botox, a purified protein, has been used to treat medical conditions for almost twenty years, and has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for cosmetic uses since 2002.
Today, we use Botox injections to reduce wrinkles and creases on the forehead, as well as around the mouth and eyes, essentially countering the negative effects that come from repeated frowning and squinting. Botox injections temporarily reduce muscle activity, but still allow for facial expressions.
Once the domain of only movie stars and public figures, Botox injections are now widely used by women and men to reduce or eliminate unsightly brow lines, crow’s feet, and other facial wrinkles and creases.
Botox injection treatments typically take 30 minutes or less, and some change can usually be seen immediately, with the full effects appearing within a few days. Typically, Botox injection treatments will last two to three months, and after continued use, they can last longer, averaging four to six months. All results vary from patient to patient.
